All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Robert Williams Collier, Sr. Robert Williams Collier Sr., 68, of Oakdale, died early Wednesday, Feb. 1, at his home, following a long illness. A native of Sabine Parish, where he left a number of close friends and relatives, he was the retired publisher of the Oakdale Journal, a weekly, and was a former Oakdale Postmaster. He was a member of the Lockney Lodge No. 867 A&FM of Lockney, Tex., was a Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, and Senior Warden of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a veteran of World War I, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a charter member of the American Legion, A. P. Griffith Post No. 56. He came to Oakdale in 1928, and retired from the Oakdale Journal in 1956. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in the Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. H. T. Sullivan, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery, with Masonic graveside services. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Katie Abington Collier of Oakdale; three daughters, Mrs. Howard Gates, Mrs. Bill Parks of Oakdale, and Mrs. Kenneth Burgess of Quincy, Fla.; a son, Dr. Robert Collier of Lake Charles; two sisters, Miss Julia Collier of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. J. F. Wood of Nixon, Texas; two brothers, C. H. Collier of Berkeley, Calif., and J. S. Collier of Reno, Nev.; and six grandchildren.
