All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Julia Collier Miss Julia Collier, 91, of Mansfield, died in a Shreveport hospital Saturday morning, May 19, following a lengthy illness. She was the author of children's books and stories, and was also active in the Louisiana Pen Women's Association. She was born in Converse, but lived much of her life in Mansfield. She is a former government budget officer. Some of her works include "Pirates of Barataria", which is out of print, but is included in the Julia Collier Collection at the University of Southern Mississippi, as part of the USM Library DeGummond Collection. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women, Personalities of the South, and a special tribute was paid her in the June, 1973, Pen Woman magazine. Graveside services were conducted on Monday morning, May 21, in Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport, with Dr. Howard Gates Jr of Rosenberg, Tex., officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of the Drewett Funeral Home. Survivors include Fred McFerson of Mansfield, and Mrs. Ione Bossier of Converse.
