Conway, Jr. Three Many blacks drowned in a tragic Fourth of July incident at Sammy Gill State Park, located 10 miles southwest of Zwolle, Monday, at 3:30 p.m., according to the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Department. Sabine Parish Sheriff George R. Cook stated that the call about the tragedy came in to the Sheriff's Dept. at approximately 3:30 p.m., and deputies were immediately dispatched to the scene, along with Raymond Isgitt of the Louisiana State Police Water Patrol. According to eye witnesses at the beach, the men had been in the water playing for a while before the incident. One of the subjects went under and began struggling, and the other two tried to rescue him. All three drowned about 20 feet from shore, as many helplessly stood by and watched. Sheriff Cook identified the victims as Rickey Scott, 18, his brother, Terry Scott, 19, and Charles A. Conway Jr., 20, all of Many. Raymond Isgitt recovered the bodies at 5:21 p.m. He was assisted by deputies from the Sheriff's Dept. The bodies were taken to Thomas Mortuary in Many, where funeral arrangements were pending at press time. The Scott brothers are survived by their mother, Mrs. Christine Little of Many; four sisters, Marjorie Faye Little, Gloria Carter, Grace Ann Little, and Linda Faye Little, all of Many; and a brother, Ernest Little of San Diego, California. Terry was a member of the 1977 graduating class at Many High School. Ricky, who lacked a course at the local high school, would have been a senior this fall. Charles A Conway Jr. is survived by his father, Charles A. Conway Sr.; one brother, Ernest Conway; his cousin, Mrs. Velma Scott, with whom he resided; and a host of relatives. Conway was originally from Tucson Arizona. He graduated from Many High School in 1976.
