All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Clinton Aubrey Craig Clinton Aubrey Craig, 40, of Converse, drowned in Toledo Bend Lake Wednesday, Aug. 8, about 6:30 p.m., in 55 feet of water. The site of the accident was near Old Blue Lake out from Zwolle. Craig, with his brothers, Gaylon and Guy, and Marie Garcie, were on the lake fishing and boating, when Clinton decided to go swimming for a few minutes. He said he was going to see how deep the water was., He dived down, then surfaced for just a second and dived again. That time he didn't come up. The three people in the boat tied a shirt around a tree near where Clinton went down, and then notified the Sabine Sheriff's Department. Sheriff's Deputies, Dub Jeter, and Travis Bennett, and Louisiana State Police Officer Raymond Isgitt, went to the scene. After searching for only 17 minutes, they located the body on the bottom of the lake. Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m., in the Midway Baptist Church in Converse. Burial was in the Shiloh Cemetery near Converse, under the direction of Drewett Funeral Home of Mansfield. Survivors include three brothers, William E. Craig of Marthaville, Louis R. Craig of Converse, and Gaylon Craig of Zwolle; a sister, Mrs. Elaine Penry of Beaumont, Texas.
