Carter, age 71, passed away Friday, May 6 after a long illness. He was a lifetime resident of Belmont community, a member of Union Baptist church. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was active in the affairs of the church and community as long as his health would permit. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Leona Haley Carter, four daughters, Mrs. Joyce Edsell of Bossier City, Mrs. Loyce Hayes, Shreveport, Miss Camille Carter, Belmont, Mrs. Malva Horn, Many. Two sons, Marvin Carter, Belmont; Jack Carter of Mansfield and 20 grandchildren. Two brothers, E. T. Carter, Pleasant Hill; J. W. Carter, Belmont; three sisters, Miss Mae Carter, Belmont, Mrs. Lula Sebren, Shreveport, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at Union Baptist church Saturday afternoon, Rev. O. S. Roberts officiating with burial in Belmont Cemetery. The large crowd who came from different towns and communities and the many beautiful floral offerings showed the high esteem Mr. Carter held in his church and community.
