Young Carter, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Carter, was the victim of a freak accident at a neighbor's home, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Tuesday. Mrs. Ronald Carter, the child's mother was reportedly visiting her neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Salter, when the incident occurred. The Carter children, a Salter child, and several others were playing outdoors at the Recknor Road residence, off Hwy. 6, approximately 8 miles west of Many. According to deputies, Mr. and Mrs. John Gandy of Shreveport were also visiting at the home. Gandy was on the back patio of the home, working on one of the children's toys, when he heard a crash in the carport. He ran through the walkway, and into the carport, only seconds after a Honda 360 motorcycle fell on the Carter child. The child had apparently climbed onto the motorcycle before it toppled over on him. Gandy lifted the motorcycle off the child and rushed him to Fraser Hospital. The Sheriff's Department was notified of the incident after the child arrived at the hospital. They conducted an investigation into the death of the tot. According to the Sheriff's Department, the child died as a result of a broken neck, a fractured skull, and crushing injuries. Dr. C. E. Poimboeuf, Parish Coroner, was called to the hospital to conduct an examination. Survivors of the child include his parents; a brother, Ronald Ray Carter Jr., and a sister, Angelaque Marie Carter, both of Many; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Parrie of Zwolle. Funeral services will be held at the Beulah Baptist Church, Thursday, Nov. 6, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Coda Salter will officiate. Burial was in the Beulah Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home.
