Carroll 4 Nov 1955 - Last rites for Durward C. Carroll, 40, DeRidder who passed away at the Veterans' Hospital in Shreveport, Sunday, Oct. 30, was conducted at Antioch Baptist church, Monday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. with Rev. L. J. Skiles officiating. Interment was in Antioch cemetery under the direction of Warren Funeral home. Mr. Carroll entered the air force in 1939 and was discharged in January, 1955 for medical reasons. He was captured by the Japanese during World War II and was held prisoner for 3 1/2 years. He was a survivor of the death march on Bataan. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Blance Carroll of Deridder, daughters, Linda, Mary Alice and Janice Faye; sons, Tommy, Larry, Robert and Dale all of Deridder; mother, Mrs. Alice Carroll of Florien, brothers J. D. of Port Arthur, Kermit and Quinton Carroll, both of Florien. Pallbearers were M. G. Anthony, S. D. Peterson, J. D. Salter, Jack Salter, Lee Sibley and C. R. Anthony.
