All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Vella Wagner Davis Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 12, in the chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home, Pine Bluff, Ark., for Vella Wagner Davis, 76, of Pine Bluff. Dr. John H. McClanahan officiated, and interment was in Graceland Cemetery. Mrs. Davis died Feb. 9, at Trinity Medical Center, Pine Bluff. She was born Sept. 23, 1915, in Bellwood, La., the daughter of the late James A. and Fannie Virginia Jones Wagner. Mrs. Wagner attended Northwestern State University at Natchitoches, and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas, Monticello, and a master's degree from Henderson State University. A teacher in the Pine Bluff system for 41 years, she also taught at the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff. She was awarded special recognition for innovative teaching methods, by several national teacher's organizations. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pine Bluff, and of Delta Kappa Gamma, which she served as president. She is survived by a son, James Aubrey Davis of Saratoga, Calif.; a daughter, Kathryn A. Virginia of Silverdale, Wash.; two sisters, Doris Rhodes of Monterey, and Lora Butler of Rome, Ga.; and two grandsons. She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Mr. Aubrey Davis. The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
