All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Vella Wagner Davis Services for Mrs. Vella Wagner Davis, 76, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 13, 1992, at Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son. Officiating was Dr. John H. McClanahan. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery, under the direction of Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home. Mrs. Davis was reared and received her early education in Bellwood, Louisiana. She attended Northwestern State University of Louisiana at Natchitoches, La., earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1950, and earned a Master's Degree from Henderson State University at Arkadelphia, Ark., in 1962. She was married to Aubrey Davis in St. Augustine, Texas in 1939. Mr. And Mrs. Davis made their home in Pine Bluff for many years. Mr. Davis died here on October 22, 1974. A teacher in the Pine Bluff School System for 41 years, Mrs. Davis taught at all levels of the public schools here. In addition, she also taught at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Known for innovative teaching methods, she was awarded special recognition for her methods by several national teacher's organizations during her career. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pine Bluff, and of Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's sorority, of which she had served as local president. Mrs. Davis died Sunday, February 9, 1992, at 1:40 a.m., at Trinity Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She is survived by one son, James Aubrey Davis of Saratoga, California; one daughter, Kathryn A. Virginia of Silverdale, Washington; two sisters, Lora Butler of Rome, Georgia, and Doris Rhodes of Monterey, Louisiana; two grandsons. The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
