Davis was traveling north on U. S. 171, in a '67 Oldsmobile Sedan, at a high rate of speed. He passed another vehicle on the right side, lost control of the car in the rain, ran into the ditch on the left side of the road, and hit the ditch embankment broadside. The car traveled 56 feet through the air, and landed on its top. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene by Sabine Parish Deputy Coroner, Dr. J. Lane Sauls. Investigating officer, State Police Sgt. Wingate Dowden said the only other passenger in the car received only minor injuries.
