Davis A fishing excursion on Toledo Bend Lake, 8 miles west of Noble, ended in tragedy Sunday, April 25, at 6:30 a.m., according to Sabine Parish Sheriff George R. Cook. According to Sheriff Cook, his office was notified of an accident on the lake at 7:25 a.m., by Jimmy Bison. A car and ambulance were dispatched to Solan's Camp on Hwy. 482, west of Noble. Deputy John Rainer investigated the accident, which claimed the life of William E. Davis, 27, of Bossier City. Rainer said Davis and Charles Grimm, also of Bossier City, had gone fishing at approximately 6 a.m. The men were in a row boat, when several boats went around them, and Davis pulled over to the side of the boat. The boat apparently hit a stump, causing Davis to lose control of the boat, and fall into Toledo. Grimm, who was in the rear of the boat, tried to stop the motor. Before he could though, the boat had turned around and run over Davis. Grimm jumped into the lake and managed to pull Davis back into the boat, with the help of several other boaters. The fishermen took Davis to Bison's Camp, where he was rushed to Fraser Hospital in Many. Davis died a short time later at the hospital. Davis, a native of Chetopa, Kansas, was a representative for Interstate Electric Co. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 27, at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Marshall Street Chapel, at 4 p.m., burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery. Davis is survived by his widow; two brothers; a sister; a maternal grandmother; and his paternal grandparents.
