All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Herman "Steve" DeValcourt Funeral services were held at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, in the Delhomme Bertrand Chapel of the Flowers, for Herman "Steve" DeValcourt, 75, who died at 7:30 a.m., Monday, at his residence. Rev. Floyd Calais, pastor of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, celebrated the mass. Musical selections were rendered by Jodi McCasland, organist and soloist. Interment followed in the Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The funeral was under the direction of Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette. Mr. DeValcourt was a native of Sunset, the son of the late William DeValcourt, and Estelle Smith. He graduated from Southwestern Institute in 1939. During World War II, Steve served with the U.S. Naval Air Corps in the Pacific Theatre, and was awarded the DFC, 2 Air Medals, Fleet Unit Citation, 6 Battle Stars, AP, and the American Defense Medals. He retired in 1987, after working for thirty years at the U.S.L. Horticulture Farm, as a lab assistant. Steve is survived by his wife of forty eight years, the former Mary Louise Davis, Lafayette; five daughters, Mrs. John (Dianna) Brassette of Lake Charles, Mrs. Salvador (Janet) Bravo of Marcaibo, Venezuela, Mrs. Larry (Kathy) Troyanowski, Sharon deValcourt, and Mrs. William (Evelyn) Theriot, all of Lafayette; three sons, Stephen DeValcourt of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, Ken DeValcourt, and Greg DeValcourt, both of Lafayette; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel D. McManus, and Mrs. Philomena D. Bourg, both of Port Arthur; two brothers, John DeValcourt, New Orleans, and T. I. DeValcourt of Port Arthur; ten grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Pallbearers were his sons, Stephen DeValcourt, Ken DeValcourt, and Greg DeValcourt; his sons-in-law, Jon Brassette, Larry Troyanowski, and William Theriot; and his grandsons, Mark Brassette, and Richard Brassette.
