A. Dupree of Many, drowns in creek behind his home, five miles northeast of Many about 9 a.m. Monday. David and his younger brother, Patrick, were playing along the bank of the creek when David fell in. Patrick ran home and summoned help. Clyde Campbell and father rushed to the scene and waded into the creek to pull the lad from the water. Mr. Campbell immediately began artificial respiration and was relieved by City Marshall George Cook and Deputy Sheriff H. W. Sandel and Trooper Jack Brown. Shortly after Parish Coroner Dr. L. H. Murdock, assisted by Dr. Burnell Brown and Dr. T. E. Adams continued respiratory efforts approximately two and one-half hours but the child could not be revived. Parish Coroner Dr. Murdock stated the boy apparently had been in the water from 40 minutes to an hour when recovered. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at St. John Catholic church officiated by Rev. Father M. R. Gremillion. Interment was in adjacent cemetery under the direction of First National Funeral home of Natchitoches. Survivors are his parents Edward and Thais Dupree, two brothers, Glenn Joseph and Patrick Charles; one sister, Catherine Ann, all of Many; paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Dupree of Many. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Hoehle of Ponchatoula and great-grandparents, Henry Dupree of Many; maternal great grandmother, Mrs. J. A. Wallace of Baton Rouge. Pallbearers were: Curtis Rodriguiz, Robert Smith, John DeClue, Jerry Koss, Phil Nett, and George Davis.
