E. DeWitt 7 Jan 1949 - Funeral services for U. E. DeWitt, age 79 years, prominent pioneer citizen of Verda, who died at his home Tuesday, Dec. 28, after a brief illness were held Thursday from First Baptist church, Verda, with a former pastor, Rev. A. L. Russell, officiating, assisted by Rev. J. B. Herndon and Rev. Frank Israel. This beloved citizen was a charter member and a deacon of this church. Interment was in Mars Hill cemetery near Verda under direction First National Funeral home of Alexandria. Surviving are two sons, O. L. and A. A. Dewitt, both of Zwolle; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Fletcher of Cerda and Mrs. Hursey Sayes of Marksville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
