Dowden Tom W. Dowden, 65, of Florien, died in Houston, Tex., on Friday, July 18, at 5:15 p.m., following an extended illness. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Gelee Dowden of Florien; three daughters, Mrs. Annis Tarver, and Gwenda McKenzie of Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Mary M. McCollough of Sulphur; two brothers, Wingate Dowden of Many, and Huey Dowden of DeQuincy; four sisters, Mrs. Maggie Lee McGee, and Mrs. Vivian Herrington, both of Florien, Mrs. Robbie Raiford of Many, and Mrs. Clydell Kile of Alexandria; and four grandchildren, John Mark Tarver, Elizabeth Tarver, Mike McCollough, and Ryan McCollough. Funeral services were held at the Pine Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, July 20, at 2 p.m. Officiating at the services were the Rev. Glen Flenniken, the Rev. H. H. Tibbitts, and the Rev. Roy Dowden. Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Larry Herrington, Earl Westfall, Bud Robertson, Donald Bridges, Murl Westfall, Roy Brown, Gerald Thaxton, and Larry Chance.
