Dowden Last rites for Furman I. Dowden of Lake Charles, age 52, who died Jan. 1, in St. Patrick's Hospital, were conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 2, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with Rev. Earl Marr, Rev. Ralph Stephens, and Rev. H. H. Tibbitts officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery, under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Pallbearers were nephews, Tommie Ray, Johnnie Mc, and Lynn Charles Dowden, Ronnie Ferris, Mike, and Jerry Arthur, Glen Scruggs, and a friend, Jerry Barnhill. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mavis Dowden, Lake Charles; four sons, Bobby Flody, Baton Rouge, SSgt. Sammy Lane, Lake Charles, Pfc. Dawson Ivy, Condon, Oregon, Vandy Dowden, Lake Charles; one daughter, Elizabeth, Lake Charles; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Dowden, Lake Charles; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Dowden, Many, Rt. 2; one brother, T. C. Dowden, Hornbeck; five sisters, Mrs. Florien Arthur, and Mrs. Eva Stoker, Many, Rt. 2, Mrs. Ulma Yeldell, Lake Charles, Mrs. Ed Scruggs, Minden, Mrs. Kalil Ferris, Bossier City; and four grandchildren. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Lake Charles, a former school teacher, he had been employed for the past 10 years as a laboratory technician at Borden's, Lake Charles.
