DeLatin succumbed, following a lengthy illness. DeLatin was born in Many on July 21, 1917, to L. C. DeLatin Sr. and Willie Mae Dew DeLatin, both deceased. A veteran, DeLatin served in the United States Army from August 26, 1942, to August 31, 1945. He served in Tunisia, Naples Foggia, Rome Arno, and North Appeennines, and other places with Co. A, 894th TD BN. His military occupation was a tank crewman gunner. A hometown boy, DeLatin returned to Many and settled down to making a living for himself. He owned and operated DeLatin's Body Shop for 20 years, and became active in community affairs. He served as Fire Chief of the Many Volunteer Fire Dept. for 15 years, and was a member of the National Guard for three years. Welding and working on cars was a way of life for this talented and hardworking man. He taught at the Zwolle Trade School, and helped young men learn the welding trade. He also instructed them in body shop work. DeLatin was an active member of the VFW, the Sabine Parish Chamber of Commerce, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. In his spare time, he loved to spend hours in the woods, bird hunting. In fact, he enjoyed these excursions right up until his death.
