Mr. James "Ed" Edward Downs

  Mr. James "Ed" Edward Downs, 64, of Shreveport, died Friday,
Aug. 3, at Christus Schumpert Highland Hospital, after a lengthy
illness. He was born in Indianapolis, Ind., and lived in
Shreveport since 1984.

  Mr. Downs was retired from Lucent Technologies, as a
buyer/planner, with 42 years of dedicated service. He was a
loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

  Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 5, at
Centuries Funeral Home Chapel in Shreveport. Officiating was
Father Murray Clayton of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church,
where Ed and Jackie were married.

  Survivors include his loving widow of two years, Jackie Ebarb
Downs; one daughter, Terri Hopkins and husband Marty of Indiana;
one stepdaughter, Kimberly Wells and husband David of California;
two sons, James E. "Eddie" Downs Jr. and wife Vicki, and David
Downs and wife Toni; stepson, Jeff Massey and wife Robin; one
sister, Ines Sanders and husband Bud, all of Indiana; nine
grandchildren, Zachary, and Ryan Downs, Trey, Carlyle, Jonas, and
Jamila Hopkins, Jessica Martinez, Jenna Skinner, Lacey Ezernack,
and Angi Laux; and one uncle, Donald Swindle and wife June of
Indiana.

  Mr. Downs was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and
Edith Downs; wife, Elaine Downs; and stepdaughter, Darcia
Skinner.

  Pallbearers were Jack Lay, Don Sharbeno, Frank Cisternino,
Johnny Liles, Bob Graves, and Jim Tyree.

  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer
Society.
