All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************************************************** ************************************************************ Bobby Ray Drew Bobby Ray Drew, 10 year old Negro, drowned Monday, about 1:30 p.m., in George Salter's pond near Negreet, according to Deputy Oliver Elliott of the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Department. Elliott said the Sheriff's Department received the call about 2:20 p.m., and recovered the body about five minutes after arriving at the scene. The deputy said Drew's parents thought he was at school, but he was fishing at the pond, and later decided to swim. With Drew was Leslie Sowell, 17. Neither Drew nor Sowell could swim. Assisting Elliott was Deputy Alfice Brumley, and members of the Many Volunteer Fire Department, Chief Valmore Byles, Asst. Chief Don Pearson, and Clauriste Byles.
