All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************************************************** ************************************************************ James Draten Darby (Photo) James Draten Darby, age 84 years, a pioneer citizen of Zwolle, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, at Alexandria, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m., at the Noble Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ed Shufflin officiating, assisted by the Rev. Troy Yopp of Little Rock, Ark. Mr. Darby was well known throughout North Louisiana, having once been Sheriff of Sabine Parish. As far back as 1943, he was the only man then living who signed the charter of the town of Zwolle on June 12, 1898. Mr. Darby also served as a commissioner at the election that accepted and adopted the charter of the town. Surviving are three brothers, Bruce Darby of Shreveport, Sam Wall of Mt. Carmel, and Burr Wall of Logansport; two sisters, Mrs. J. D. Brown of Zwolle, and Mrs. Fannie Marrs of Logansport. Pallbearers were T. M. Phillips, Edwin Fraser, Van Vines, J. Bronson Crews, J. O. Kimbrell Jr., and Dewey Craig. Interment was in the Noble Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Funeral Home of Many.
