  17 Dec 1943 - Laurence L. Latham, 69, former resident of
Shreveport died at Cincinnati, Ohio, Dec. 9. Funeral services
were held at the Benge funeral home in Shreveport at 2 p.m.
Wednesday. Interment was in Forest Park cemetery.

  Surviving are his widow: Mrs. Genie Peters Latham, three
daughters, Misses Joy, Mary and Ruby Latham, and a son, Sgt.
William Latham of the mechanized calvary of the U. S. army.

  Mr. Latham is the brother-in-law of Mrs. R. A. Fraser
of Many and has a number of other relatives near Many.

  At one time he made his home in Many, moving from here to
Shreveport.

  3 Dec 1943 - Funeral rites for Mrs. Susan Meshell, age 62
years, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's church,
Zwolle. rev. Father Hardie LaCour officiated. Funeral was in
charge of Dennis-Green funeral home.

  Surviving are one son, Alfred Meshell of Zwolle; six daughters,
Tilda Ezernack of Zwolle, Mrs. Mattie Ebarb of Noble, Mrs. Elva
Crnkovic of Cullen, Mrs. Lucy Lopez of Many, Mrs. Veota Ezeranck
and Mrs. Lillie Ezernack of Zwolle.

The Sabine Index - Joe Salonia Ross

  10 Dec 1943 - Joe Salonia Ross, age 31 years, four months and
18 days, died at the Reed hospital, Leesville, Dec. 3, after a
brief illness. Funeral services were at three o'clock Sunday
afternoon at Calvary Baptist church, the Revs. Scott and Bolton
officiating. Remains were laid to rest in the Fenders cemetery,
near Many, under the direction of Dennis-Green funeral home.

  Surviving relatives are his father, G. L. Ross of Little Rock,
Ark.; two brothers, B. R. and Eugene Ross of Many; one sister,
Mrs. H. P. Kemp, Houston, Texas.

  Pallbearers were Reuben Peterson, W. R. Robinson,
Bennie Spiers, Joe Henry, Thurman Carlisle, all of Many, and
Robert Scott of Leesville.

The Sabine Index - Mrs. Sarah Lyles Stewart

  17 Dec 1943 - Funeral rites for Mrs. Sarah Lyles Stewart, age
88 years, were held last Thursday at 11 o'clock at Mt. Carmel.
Rev. A. D. Ashby of Blanchard officiated, assisted by Rev. H. T.
Young and Rev. Newcomb. Interment was in Mt. Carmel cemetery,
Dennis-Green funeral home in charge. Pallbearers were grandsons,
Monroe Skinner, Roy Skinner, Vandy Pentecost, Troy Thaxton, Leon
Thaxton and Jeff Skinner.

  Surviving are six sons, Robert, Andy and Rollie of Robeline,
Cleveland, Clarence and Claude of Florien; three daughters, Mrs.
Bell Skinner, Mrs. Josie Pentecost and Mrs. R. Thaxton, Florien;
55 grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren; one sister,
Mrs. Josephine Goodwin of Anacoco. Mrs. Stewart leaves 281 grand
and great-great grandchildren and has 30 descendents in military
service.
