Grover Hieston "Dumpy" Evans, Jr.

  Services for Mr. Grover Hieston "Dumpy" Evans, Jr., 54, of
Lufkin, Tex., were held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 1, at the
Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Charles S. McIlveene
officiating, and burial was in the Garden of Memories Memorial
Park.

  Mr. Evans died Thursday, July 30, 1987, at his residence.

  Born in Sabine Parish, Louisiana, on April 25, 1933, he resided
in Lufkin since 1940. He was a member of the First Baptist Church
of Lufkin.

  Survivors include his aunts, Audie Jones of Florien, Bertha Holt
of Port Arthur, Tex., Pearl Owens of Elizabeth, and Margaret
Johnson of Oakdale, and Lewis Thomas of Monroe; and guardian,
Pete Johnson of Orange, Tex.; and a number of cousins.

  Pallbearers were Jerry Johnson, Bud Johnson, Rodney Bryant,
Ralph Jones, Pride Johnson, and Chad Bryant.
