Isaiah 40:31. Sister Dessie Lee Lewings Edmonson was born Sept. 11, 1925, to the late Sister Pearl Simmons and the late Bro. Floyd Lewings of Clare. She departed this life Jan. 25, 1996, at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, at 7:15 p.m. She confessed Christ at an early age, and united with the St. Mary Baptist Church in Clara. Mrs. Edmonson was united in Holy Matrimony with Bro. J. D. Edmonson, on Oct. 25, 1944, and to this union, God blessed them with ten children. She later united with the Bethel Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. N. P. Jones. She later united with the Redland Baptist Church in Florien, under the leadership of the late Rev. C. A. Lilly. Throughout the years, she remained faithful at Redland Baptist Church, until death under the leadership of her son, Rev. Donny Edmonson Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Bro. J. D. Edmonson of Florien; three daughters, Sis. Pearl Maxie, and Sis. Juanetta Garner, both of Florien, and Sis. Dorothy Sudds of Dallas, Texas; seven sons, Rev. Donny Edmonson Sr., Bro. Floyd Edmonson, and Bro. Derry Edmonson, all of Florien, Bro. Delton Edmonson of Many, Bro. Curtis Edmonson of Phoenix, Bro. James Edmonson, and Bro. Willie Edmonson of Houston. She is also survived by six sisters, Sis. Maurice Newton, Sis. Maybelle Peacock, Sis. Alma Spencer, Sis. Lottie Williams, Sis. Nellie Neal, and Sis. Joe Ella Fuller; one brother, Rev. Linburg Simmons; 38 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
