Edwards Jr., 67, of Pleasant Hill, died at 8:20 p.m., Saturday, April 6, at the Barksdale Air Firce Base Hospital, after a long illness. A native of Lebanon, Ore., Mr. Edwards had resided in Pleasant Hill for 12 years. He was retired from the U. S. Army. He was a veteran of World War II, taking part in the occupation of the Phillipines and Japan, and serving two tours of duty in occupied Germany. He was a past commander of the Oliff Fair Post No. 300 of the American Legion, and a member of the Retired Officers Association, and the First Methodist Church of Centralia, Ill. Private funeral services were held Sunday, April 7, at the Osborn Funeral Home. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Miriam LaFitte Edwards; a daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Hight of Pelican; three sons, James H. Edwards III of Shreveport, Bruce Edwards, and Glenn Edwards, both of Pleasant Hill; one stepson, Robert Newson of Los Altos Hills, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Dozier of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Mrs. Eula Tucker of Delhi, New York; and six grandchildren. The family has requested that any memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
