Ellzey Memorial services were held Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m., for Marine Corps Capt. William D. Ellzey of Florien, at the Cenchrea Church of the Nazarene in Florien. Capt. Ellzey, 32, was one of eight servicemen killed Aug. 29, 1986, when their helicopter crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Norway. He was one of four crew members assigned to the aircraft. Capt. Ellzey's body was not recovered, and he is presumed dead. He was a 1971 graduate of Florien High School, and a 1975 graduate of Louisiana Tech. University. Capt. Ellzey was commissioned in Nov. 1976, after completing officer candidate school at Quantico, Va. He graduated from flight school in Pensacola, Fla., in 1979. Capt. Ellzey is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Ellzey; and four children, Amber, 10, Erin, 8, Rachel, 6, and Kenneth, 4, all of Florien; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William A. Ellzey of Florien; one sister, Kathy Chance of Florien; and two brothers, Greg Ellzey of Florien, and Allen Ellzey of Raleigh, N. C.
