Futch, a 38 year old dentist of Shreveport who was drowned Saturday, while fishing in Toledo bend Lake, was recovered by divers at 2:35 p.m., Sunday afternoon, according to Civil Defense Director, the Rev. Bill White. Dr. Futch apparently drowned after being thrown from his boat when the craft struck a partially submerged log. His body was found in 13 foot deep water near LaNana's Landing, located just off State Hwy. 475, in the eastern area of Toledo Bend, by divers Homer Spears and Jimmy White. The Sabine Parish Sheriff Department received a call about 4 p.m., reporting the accident. Deputy Sheriff Elwin Patterson and Marshal Quinton Brandon of Zwolle was dispatched to the scene of the accident right away. Don Lambert and Shorty Muse, fishermen in the area of the accident, told the deputies they heard a loud crash about 4 p.m., and saw the boat circling in the water, but there was no eye witnesses to the accident the deputies said. Dr. Futch reportedly had been fishing with a group of friends prior to heading out alone in his power boat for another fishing spot. A search with diver Homer Spears, directed by Civil Defense Director, the Rev. Bill White, was launched, and the search continued until darkness and rough water halted recovery efforts Saturday night, but divers, upon resuming efforts early Sunday morning, recovered the body that afternoon from the same general area in which the boat was found. The body was removed to the Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many, and later released to Osborne in Shreveport. Other divers helping in the search were Robert Spears, and Teddy DeLacarda. Rescue operations were coordinated with Sabine Parish Deputies Alfice Brumley, Elwin Patterson, Walter Sculthorpe, Zwolle Marshal Quinton Brandon, and numerous volunteers.
