Free, 73, were held Friday, August 31, at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel, with the Rev. Johnny G. Tipton, pastor of Grawood Baptist Church, officiating. A second service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 1, at Jennings Chapel Methodist Church in Marthaville, with the Rev. Edwin Fenton, retired minister of Marthaville, officiating. Burial was in the Jennings Chapel Cemetery in Marthaville. Mr. Free died Wednesday, August 29, in Shreveport, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Marthaville, and had been a Shreveport resident since 1964. Mr. Free was a retired security guard with Southern Research, a Baptist, a veteran of World War II, and the U. S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean Polk Free of Shreveport, Gary O. Free of Deer Park, Texas, and Michael E. Free of Tampa Bay, Fla.; two daughters, Wanda Jean Wisenhurst of Marathon, Fla., and Delores Ann "Dee" Faircloth of Keithville, La.; one sister, Gladys Treadway of Shreveport; five brothers, Alton E. Free of Robeline; Earnest Free of Shreveport, Elmo Free of Chestnut, Marcell Free of Kilgore, Texas, and Kenneth Free of Klamath Falls, Oregon; five grandsons; and six granddaughters.
