S. Tompkins of Florien. Funeral services were held Monday, 11:30 a.m. at Siloam church with Rev. C. W. Williams of the First Baptist church of Many and Rev. McComic of Gandy officiating. Funeral was in charge of Dennis-Green funeral home. Mrs. Anthony is survived by one brother, A. S. Tompkins of Florien and two sisters, Mrs. Augie Leach of Anacoco and Mrs. Annie Robinson of Many. ***************************************************************** Obituaries: Dr. J. W. Craig, age 80 years, 11 months and 16 days, passed away Monday morning, February 12th, at 1:30 at the Highland sanitarium, Shreveport after a brief illness. However, the Doctor had been in failing health the past year. Funeral services were held at the family residence Tuesday at 10 o'clock, Rev. C. W. Williams, pastor of First Baptist church, officiating: funeral services directed by Dennis-Green funeral home, interment in the Many cemetery. Pallbearers were Conrad Dean, Andrew Davis, Fr. H. M. Prothro, J. B. Vandegaer, J. S. Pickett, P. W. Ford, R. A. Carson and W. R. Robinson. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. J. W. Craig; four daughters, Mrs. Homer Sullins, Henryett, Okla., Mrs. O. T. Pennell, Beaumont, Texas, Miss Lida Craig, Haughton, and Mrs. J. S. Middleton of Many; one son, J. W. Craig, Jr., of Many; also five grandchildren. Dr. Craig was a native of Illinois receiving his M. D. degree at Louisville, Ky., moving to Many from Pelican, La., in 1919, opening a drug store and doing a practice of medicine for the past 21 years, was very successful always holing accuracy and honesty as his ideals. He had been very active in his profession until the past year, when failing health prevented. He was a member of both the parish and state medical societies and the Masonic Lodge Chapter 10 of Shreveport; for years was a member and served as president of the Many Lions Club, in which he took a very active interest, having at all times used his time and influence in promoting industries that would lead to the betterment and prosperity of Many and Sabine parish in which he had great faith. ***************************************************************** Obituaries: Mrs. Anna Ellzey, Sabine Parish E-420 Source: Sabine Index, Many, La., Feb 16, 1940 Submitted by: Tammy Larche-Smith tammy@cp-tel.net The Sabine Index - Mrs. Anna Ellzey 16 Feb 1940 - Funeral rites for Mrs. Anna Ellzey, age 76 years, were held at Plainview Baptist church last Tuesday at 11:30, interment in the Toro cemetery. Rev. Elbert Brown officiated. Surviving are three sons, Amburg, S. F., and J. W. Ellzey; four daughters, Mrs. S. Y. Addison, Mrs. L. C. Dowden, Mrs. C. N. Watts and Mrs. H. T. Isgitt. Pallbearers were grandsons; Cyril, Myron, Loren and Robert Ellzey and Louis and Fred Addison. The funeral was directed by the Dennis-Green funeral home of Many. ***************************************************************** Obituaries: Miriam Elizabeth Key, Sabine, Natchitoches Parish K-000 Source: Sabine Index, Many, La., Feb 23, 1940 Submitted by: Tammy Larche-Smith tammy@cp-tel.net The Sabine Index - Miriam Elizabeth Key 23 Feb 1940 - Mrs. Miriam Elizabeth Key, relict of the late J. J. Key, age 72 years, seven months, 18 days, died Feb. 18 at 12:15 p.m. in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Funderburk of Kisatchie, after an illness of three weeks. Mrs. Key had lived in Kisatchie all her life and was loved by all who knew her. She stood for high ideals in life, was a beloved wife and mother and an ideal neighbor. In her early years she gave her life to Christ and united with the Baptist church, where she served her Lord and Master in a sincere and humble way. Mrs Key was the mother of 12 children, eight of whom are living; had 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She leaves the following children to mourn her passing: Mrs. Malessie Funderburk, Mrs. Nola Funderburk, Mrs. Zula Booty, all of Kisatchie; Eddie Key, Alco; Caleb Key, Hornbeck; Miles J. Key, Alexandria; Billie Key and Adam Key, Many. She also leaves a brother and two sisters, Henry Taylor of Center, Texas Mrs. Dan Robinson of Many and Mrs. Miles Key of Provencal. Funeral services were held at Kisatchie Baptist church 2 p.m. Feb. 19, with Rev. Monroe Roberts and Rev. C. W. Williams officiating. Interment was in Kisatchie cemetery under the direction of Dennis-Green funeral home. W. Knight, (Emily Lurline Addison) died 5 Feb at 8:20 at the Davis hospital in Pine Bluff, Ark., following a brief illness of pneumonia and throat infection. Mrs. Knight was born at Florien October 7, 1915. She was married to D. W. Knight of Pine Bluff, Ark., October 7, 1939. Mrs. Knight had been assistant to Dr. L. G. Formby in his dental office for the past two years. She was a member of the Lee Memorial Baptist church of Pine Bluff. In addition to her husband and parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Y. Addison of Florien, she is survived by three brothers, Lovie and Lester Addison of Florien, Fred Addison of Natchitoches; seven sisters. Mrs. E. J. Phares of Caspiana, Mrs. W. J. Lester of Nederland, Texas, Mrs. A. D. Lucius of Hornbeck, Mrs. Hoy Lee and Mrs. H. H. Jones of Many, Mrs. E. B. Formby of Pine Bluff, Ark., Mrs. C. E. Lester of Florien. Funeral services were held at 8:30 p.m. at the chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son funeral home in Pine Bluff in charge was Rev. Lawrence of Blackwell, her pastor, the Rev. C. W. Finch of the Harmony association, and the Rev. L. A. Sparkman of the Southside Baptist church. After the services in Pine Bluff the body was sent to Florien, where services and burial were held Wednesday morning, interment was in the family lot in Mt. McMillian 9 Feb 1940 - Funeral services were held at Pisgah Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. for Blewford B. (Uncle Bluff) McMillian, age 84 years, two months and 14 days, who died Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Byrd of Florien. Rev. Henry Chance conducted the services, assisted by Rev. C. W. Williams of First Baptist church, Many. The Dennis-Green funeral home had charge of arrangements. Mr. McMillian was one of Sabine's pioneer citizens. He was born in Burnt Corn, Alabama, moving to Toro with his parents when Sabine parish was first being settled. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. N. A. Miller of Florien and Mrs. Joseph Byrd of Florien. He is also survived by his step-mother, Mrs. Susan McMillian who was 99 years old Nov. 11 1939; one brother Dick McMillian of Toro and two half-brothers L. L. McMillian and Will McMillian, all of Toro; nine grandchildren, Mrs. J. A. Melvin, 69, 1214 North Church, died in a local hospital at 1:30 p.m. Friday after an illness of nine days. Born in Nashville, Tenn., he had lived in Tyler six years. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Cedar Street Methodist church with Rev. L. F. Brothers officiating and burial in Rose Hill cemetery under the direction of Burke-Walker-Daniel Funeral home. Mr. Melvin came here from Peason, La., where he had served 16 years with the Peavey-Wilson Lumber Company. Surviving are his widow; one stepson, H. W. She was left a widow 25 years ago and his lived among her children since the death of her husband. At the time of her death she was in the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. L. Pilcher, where she had been during a lengthy illness. Mrs. Ritter is survived by three daughters, Mrs. R. L. Pilcher of Many, Mrs. Dove Jones of Negreet, and Mrs. Hettie Caraway of Spring Hill; three sons, Johnnie, Jessie and William Ritter, all of Many; and a host of grandchildren. Interment was in the Little Flock cemetery, services conducted by Rev. W. E. Ross, Dennis-Green funeral home in charge. Williams, 60, one of Many's best known citizens and businessmen, died Thursday morning in his home after a short illness. Funeral services were held in the First Baptist church Friday afternoon with Rev. C. W. Williams, Rev. L. N. Hoffpauir and Rev. J. B. Williams officiating. Burial was in the Many cemetery under the direction of the Dennis-Green funeral home. Pallbearers were: W. M. Knott, J. H. Ritter, Dr. Gus Weber, E. E. Smith, T. M. Phillips, W. E. Curtis, with his other friend as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Williams was the son of the late Norris A. and Anna Stille Williams. He was born in Milam, Texas, but moved to Many with his parents when a child where he lived until his death. Surviving are his widow, the former Olla Tetts; four daughters, Mrs. E. L. Meharg of Bay City, Texas, Mrs. J. T. Leopold, Mrs. George Boyes, both of Many, Mrs. J. B. Morrow of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Dr. R. T.
