Simmons, 66, wife of M. B. Simmons, prominent Many business man, died at the family residence Sunday following an illness of several years. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist church with the Rev. C. W. Williams and the Rev. J. D. Scott officiating. Burial was in the Many cemetery under the direction of Dennis-Green funeral home. Mrs .Simmons is survived by her husband; two brothers, B. V. Harvey, Edna, Texas, W. M. Harvey, Many; three sisters, Mrs. Ouida Carter, Beaumont, Texas, Mrs. W. T. Carson, Shreveport, and Miss Bicie Harvey, Many. Pallbearers were the Rev. Henry Nichols, the Rev. Herbert Laidlow, T. M. Rev. C. W. Williams officiated. Interment was in Fort Jesup cemetery under the direction of Dennis Green funeral home. Pallbearers were: T. M. Phillips, Wallace DeLatin, J. M. Petty, T. J. Curtrer, C. B. Byrd, Jr., and E. E. Smith. Mrs. Byrd passed away at the family home, three miles east of Many, following a heart attack, was the wife of the late A. S. Byrd. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Ada Duggan, Mrs. Lois Holland of Many, Miss Allie Byrd and Mrs. Mattie Gardner of New Orleans, Mrs. Lucy Jones and Mrs. Lena Lohman of Shreveport; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harvey Byrd of Neosho, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Easley of Smithville, Texas, and Mrs. Adie McBrown of Beaumont, Texas. Mrs. Byrd was one of Many's best loved citizens.
