Alford 25 Feb 1949 - Funeral service for John N. Alford, 52-year-old filling station operator of Paris, Texas, were conducted at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon of last week at Brown-Roden funeral home by Rev. Theodore McElroy of First Christian church, assisted by Dr. L. Boyd Reavis of First Baptist church. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery, Paris, with Charlie Baird, James Biard, C. M. Fennell, Roy Floyd and C. R. Gray, pallbearers. Mr. Alford died the preceding Saturday in Carlsbad sanatorium, San Angelo, Texas, where he had gone for treatment 10 days earlier. He was born at Many July 16, 1897, son of the late John W and Ona Arnett Alford, but was reared in Biardstown, Texas. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Gladys Boyce, and a son, John Luke Alford, Paris, Texas, these sisters and brothers, Mrs. J. B. Sibley, Mrs. Mark Roberts and Lawrence Alford, all of Many, N. Aten, age 75 years, who died in Montgomery hospital, Conroe, Texas Sunday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. after a lengthy illness, were held from First Methodist church, Converse, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. H. T. Isgitt, pastor, officiating assisted by Rev. Jerry Schmucker, pastor Converse Baptist church, and Rev. S. M. Mullkey, pastor Zwolle Baptist church. Mr. Aten, a native of Sabine parish, was the son of the late W. M. Aten and the late Mrs. Nan Tyler Aten. He was a member of Bayou Scie Methodist church and was loved by all who knew him. W. C. Borum, pastor Kelly Memorial Baptist church. Interment was in Forest Park cemetery under direction of Rose-Neath funeral home. Members of the W. H. Booth lodge of Masons served as pallbearers. Mr. Whitley was a retired police officer having served in Shreveport as a patrolman for a number of years under the administration of the late Public Service Commissioners, R. L. Stringfellow and T. C. Dawkins. After retiring from the police force, Mr. Whitley served as a school patrolman at the Queensborough school. He was a member of the W. H. Booth lodge of Masons and the Woodmen of the World. He had been a resident of Shreveport for 30 years. Mr. Whitley is survived by his widow; one son, J. A. Whitley, Sr., Shreveport, five daughters, Mrs. Orie Wald, Mrs. F. G. Montgomery and Mrs. Lloyd Sudduth of Shreveport, Mrs. W. A. Perryman, Longview, Texas and Mrs. J. A. Sims, Jr., of El Dorado, Ark; one brother, DeWitt Whitley, and a sister, Mrs. J. B. Jeter, both of Shreveport; 18 grandchildren. Mt. Whitley was the husband of the former Kate Wagley Whitley, life-long resident of the Middle Creek community.
