Goode Ira Jay Goode, 80, of Lake Charles, died March 28, in a Lake Charles Hospital. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, in the North Chapel of the Hixson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Ramsour officiating. Burial was in the Magnolia Cemetery in West Lake. A native of McMinnville, Tenn., Mr. Goode moved to Sabine Parish in 1910, when, as a young man of nineteen years of age, he came to be a school teacher in the Toro Community. For seven years, until his enlistment in the United States Army, he taught school and singing schools through the parish, with his activities being centered in the Florien Community. following his discharge from the army as a second leutenant, he settled in Lake Charles, later moving to DeQuincy, where he was in the wholesale grocery, and coffee roasting and sales business. In 1933, he entered the oil lease brokerage business. In DeQuincy he was active in all school and civic affairs. He was a deacon of the First Baptist Church there, and served as choir director and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He moved to Lake Charles in 1948. There he was an active member of the Rotary Club, and a life deacon and Sunday school teacher in the Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Bertie Mae Goode; one son, Burton Goode of Lake Charles; one daughter, Mrs. Keith Kent of Shreveport; one brother, H. A. Goode of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Mrs. Jimmie Elkins of Woodberry, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren.
