All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Robert Gates, Sr. Robert Gates Sr., of Monroe, died Saturday, August 15, 1987, at North Monroe Hospital, following a sudden illness. He was 63. Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, on Monday, August 17, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Joe Mongle officiating. Burial was in the Indian Village Cemetery near Calhoun, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home. Mr. Gates was a native of Monroe. He owned a camp on Toledo Bend Lake, and spent much of his time in the Sabine Parish area. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Helen S. Gates of Monroe; one son, Robert Gates Jr. of Many; one daughter, Ginger S. Phillips of Athens, Tex.; his mother, Pearl Gates of Fairbanks, La.; and three grandchildren. Mr. Gates was a member of the R. F. McGuire Masonic Lodge, the Monroe Consistory of the Scottish Rite, and he El Karubah Shrine Temple. Masonic rites were conducted at the funeral. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital, the Masonic Children's Home, or the American Cancer Society.
