Gates, 49, were held Monday, September 11, at 3 p.m., at Rose-Neath's Mansfield Chapel. Interment followed in the Pollard Cemetery. Rev. A. F. Ott of Sugartown, and Rev. Barry Joyner, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, officiated the services. Mr. Gates, who passed away from a sudden illness on Friday, September 8, was a native of Mitchell, and a lifelong resident of the Mansfield area. He was a machinist for AT&T Technologies in Shreveport, and a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Stanley. Mr. Gates was also a member of the Loyal Order of The Moose Lodge #2239 in Shreveport. Mr. Gates is survived by five daughters, Coral Booker of Logansport, Beverly Mann of Mansfield, Cindy Bissell of Stephens City, Virginia, Sherri Tuck of Ransom, West Virginia, and Johnette Gates of Stephens City, Virginia; two sisters, Pauline McDonald of Haughton, and Edna Mae Shackleford of Channelview, Texas; and six grandchildren. Don Pierce, Jimmy Stephens, Larry Adkinson, Buster Bissell, Jack Martin, and Marshall (Bo) McDonald served as pallbearers with co-workers at AT&T Technologies in Shreveport serving as honorary pallbearers.
