Officiating the service was Jeff Phillips, pastor of Noble United Pentecostal Church. Burial followed in the Springridge Cemetery. Mr. Gates passed away Sunday, July 15, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mansfield. Born in Mitchell, and a resident of Pleasant Hill since 1941, Mr. Gates was a former oilfield worker, and farmer, and was a member of the Noble United Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Britt Gates. Survivors include one son, William Odell Gates of Pleasant Hill; two daughters, Melveana Vines of Converse, and Fannie Bridges of Shreveport; two sisters, Mary Drucie Brown of Mitchell, and Annie Free of Marthaville; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Gates' nephews served as pallbearers.
