Gates, 73, were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Rose-Neath Coushatta Chapel. Officiating was Rev. Billy Burkett. Burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Converse. Mr. Gates died Monday, Dec. 9, in Coushatta, after a lengthy illness. He was a long time resident of Converse, a member of the First Baptist Church in Converse, and a veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. D. and Martha Gates; his wife, Sadie Bee Free Gates; and two brothers, Harvey, and Buford Gates. He is survived by one brother, A. T. "Buddy" Gates of Coushatta; numerous nieces and nephews.
