(Buddy) Gates, 88, were held Tuesday, September 12, 1995, at Rose-Neath's Coushatta Chapel. Officiating was Rev. Kevin Taylor. Burial was in the Springville Cemetery, under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home. Mr. Gates was born January 14, 1907, in Sabine Parish, and died Sunday, September 10, 1995, in Coushatta, following a lengthy illness. He was a longtime resident of Coushatta. He was a past member of the First Baptist Church, the Lions Club, past Secretary of the Louisiana Shorthorn Cattlemen's Association, a past member of the Town Council of Coushatta, founder, and assistant leader of the Boy Scouts of America in Converse, member of the Southern Seeds Association, and Louisiana Thoroughbred Association. Mr. Gates was preceded in death by his parents, William Daniel Gates of Gatesville, Miss.; and his mother, Martha Matilda Sherwood Gates of Sabine Parish; three brothers, Harold Melville Gates, Burford Gates, both of Converse, and William Harvey Gates of Coushatta. Survivors include his wife, Eunice Webb Gates of Coushatta; two sons, Thomas Gates of Coushatta, and William Gates of Shreveport; one daughter, Martha Gates Cecile of Coushatta; one niece, Loretta Gates Geneaux of Shreveport; several grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Mike Kennington, Buddy Jones, Tommy Glen Jones, Ronald Webb, Robbie Smith, and Stanley Smith. Honorary pallbearers were George Wise, Len Geneaux, Jackie Huckabay, Matt Wyche, Joe Bill Adcock, and C. L. (Bubba) Webb.
