Rev. Leige Jenning officiated. He was better known in the community as Sam Gates, and was 45 years, 3 months, and 19 days old. Burial was in the Mitchell Cemetery, under the direction of the Drewett Funeral Home in Mansfield. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae Parks Gates, Mitchell; two daughters, Mrs. Edna Mae Herring, and Mildred Pauline Gates, both of Mitchell; one son, Johnny Audie Gates of Mitchell; three brothers, Thomas M. Gates, Mitchell, W. D. Gates, Pleasant Hill, Clifton T. Gates, Brookfield, Ill.; three sisters, Mary Durice Brown, Mitchell, Annie Alma Free, Benson, Martha Lee Free, Marthaville; one granddaughter, Theresa Mae Herring, Mitchell. Pallbearers were Otto Parks, Albert Parks, Leo Free, Gilbert Vines, Turly Free, and Mircial Parks.
