"Odell" Gates, 67, of Pleasant Hill, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Services for Mr. Gates were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 23, in Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Mansfield, with Bro. Connie Tucker officiating. Burial followed in the Spring Ridge Cemetery at Pleasant Hill. He is survived by a daughter, Sonya Ballard and husband Shane; three grandchildren, Haleigh, and Paden Ballard, and Melissa Bolton, all of Kingwood, Texas; two sisters, Melveana Vines of Mansfield, and Fannie Bridges and husband Ray of Shreveport; and two nephews, Mitchell Vines, and Steve Bridges of Shreveport. He is also leaving behind to remember the "Good O'le Days", numerous friends. Mr. Gates was born in Mitchell on April 27, 1935, to W. D. "Bill" and Nettie Britt Gates, and resided in Pleasant Hill most of his life. He was a dedicated member of Noble United Pentecostal Church. Pallbearers were Mitchell Vines, Junior Golden, Truly Bozeman III, Russel Bozeman, Byron Britt, Robert Britt, and Rob Gaddis. Honorary pallbearers were Truly Bozeman Jr., Steve Bridges, Buster Gaddis, Brose Hayes, Leon Campbell, Don Hubbard, and Allen Brown. Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Mansfield, La.
