All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The Sabine Index - Rilla Gandy 27 Nov 1936 - Mrs. Rilla Gandy, widow of the late Rufus Gandy, age 68 years, passed away Sunday, Nov. 15 at 9:15 a.m. at her residence in Florien, after a short illness. Mrs. Gandy was born and reared in Sabine parish, near Sabine river; after marriage to R. S. Gandy nearly fifty years ago, settled at Gandy, where they lived about thirty-five years. Funeral services were held at Florien Baptist church Monday afternoon at two o'clock, after O.E.S. services at the home by Mt. Carmel chapter No. 3, of which she was a charter member. The Dennis Funeral home of Many was in charge of arrangements. Rev. J. M. Pate, of Many, a life-time friend, officiated, assisted by Rev. W. G. Bailey, Rev. Ernest Lilley and Rev. Green of DeRidder, pastor of Florien church. "In the Land Where We Never Grow Old," was rendered by Mesdames Ernest Lilley, and Grace Miller. The pallbearers were Joe Dover, Leroy Williams, L. A. Pynes, Mack Duggan, D. S. Leach and Vernice Wright. Interment was in Antioch cemetery. Surviving Mrs. Gandy are three children, Mrs. John M Miller of Mooringsport, Mrs. B. L. Dildy of Gandy and Francis E Gandy of Shreveport; one brother Lee F McLanahan of Florien; one sister Mrs. Minerva McLanahan Salter of Florien; two grandchildren Norene Dildy of Gandy and Betty Sue Gandy of Shreveport. Relatives and friends from out-of-town visiting the home or attending the funeral were: Dr. and Mrs. Ed. Gandy of Alexandria; Mrs. Leele Cole of Shreveport; Mrs. W. E. Gandy of Vernon, Texas; Mrs. Janie LaCaze of Leesville; Mrs. Theodosia Hadnot and Miss Virginia Hadnot of Natchitoches; Mrs. Anna Davis, Mrs. May Buvens and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Cobbs of Many; Prof. and Mrs. Leroy S. Miller and Mrs. Eddie Leach of Natchitoches; Rev. and Mrs. Z. T. Young, Miss Beatrice Young, Mrs. J. A. Duty, J. A. Newland, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Newland, Jr., and Miss Katherine Newland of Mooringsport; Mrs. Burton of Wichita Falls, Kans.; Rev. and Mrs. Green and daughter of DeRidder; Mrs. T. Clawson, Rosepine. there were others from Zwolle, Many, Fisher, Gandy and Hornbeck too numerous to mention.
