Gentry Services for Edward Earl Gentry, 79, of Marthaville, were held at 3 p.m., Friday, Feb. 4, at Jennings Chapel Congregational Methodist Church near Marthaville. The Rev. I. D. Noble, pastor of Spears Chapel at Burkeville, Tex., and the Rev. Don Slater, pastor of Jennings Chapel, officiated. Burial was in the Bethany Cemetery, under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches. He died Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 10 p.m., at Pleasant Hill General Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Gentry was born in Baxter, Tenn., Jan. 30, 1904. As a young man, he worked as a hardwood lumber inspector at sawmills throughout the south. During World War II, he worked in the ship building industry at Beaumont, Tex. He is survived by his wife, Mary Atla Gentry of Marthaville; two sons, Edward E. Gentry, Jr. of Bossier City, and Robert Gentry of Many; three daughters, Mrs. Clifford Shirley of Winnsboro, and Mrs. Lucy Jennings, and Mrs. Evelyn Sutton of Shreveport; one brother, John B. Gentry, Jr. of Marthaville; one sister, Lucille Wylie of Kilbourne; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers were David Shirley, James Shirley, Terry Shirley, Richard Jennings, Keith Gentry, and Gilbert McMillin.
