Garrett Jr. died suddenly at his residence, Tuesday morning, Sept. 26. Religious services were held Thursday, Sept. 28, with a private funeral and burial in the family cemetery in Houston. He was 65, and a native of St. Francisville, La. He had just retired from the Amoco Production Company's Houston Division, with 43 years of service. He was a 1933 graduate of La. State University, where he earned a graduate degree in Geology. He joined Amoco in 1935, as Paleontologist. His company services was interrupted by World War II, during which he saw action in European, Middle Eastern, and African Theaters. He rose to the rank of Major, was awarded 2 campaign stars, and the Bronze Medal for his combat service. He was named Chief Paleontologist, after returning from military service. All the company service was in Houston, where he had his home. He was a member of several Professional and civic organizations. He had published a number of papers in Scientific Magazines. He is survived by his wife, Irma Fonville Garrett; a daughter, Joan Elizabeth Garrett of Newington, Conn.; 2 sons, Richard H. Garrett of Houston, and Dr. Alfred Garret, Hawaii; one sister, Dr. Mary G. Hauer of Baton Rouge; one brother, Harvey A. Garrett, Sr., St. Francisville; and his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Gandy Garrett of St. Francisville.
