Born on August 10, 1872, he was 111 at the time of his death. Mr. Garner was an active member of the Morning Star Baptist Church, until his health failed. He served as a deacon under the leadership of Rev. Jimmy Williams, and Rev. Jedro Lee. Funeral services for Mr. Garner were held Sunday, July 1, at 2:30 p.m., in the Morning Star Baptist Church near Many. Rev. Lee Collier, pastor, officiated. Services were under the direction of the Thomas Mortuary. Interment was in Cross Road Cemetery. Surviving Mr. Garner are one sister, Mrs. Cathrine Newton, Many; two daughters, Mrs. Ola Thomas, and Mrs. Gena Garner, both of Many; eight grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 65 great-great grandchildren; 18 great-great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers were James Hollins, Robert Sweet, Charles Brumfield, Gary Hollins, James D. Hollins, and Louis Hollins. Honorary pallbearers, Holmes.
