All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** ** Mrs. Myrtie Mae (Miller) Hopkins Mrs. Myrtie Mae (Miller) Hopkins died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999 in Natchitoches Parish Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Hopkins was born near Florien on Feb. 25, 1915 to Brink and Clara Miller. She was the second of seven children surviving infancy. She was a graduate of Florien High School and later married Lawrence W. Hopkins of Florien on Sept. 9, 1935. Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins resided in Shreveport and Sabine Parish for many years before moving to West Texas in 1949. After settling in Midland, Texas, Mrs. Hopkins was employed as an interior decorator for a local furniture company. Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins returned to Sabine Parish in 1972 to be near relatives after Mr. Hopkins became critically ill. Following Mr. Hopkins' death in December of that year, Mrs. Hopkins devoted herself to her family and friends. She took great pride in using her skills as a decorator and seamstress to brighten the homes of her loved ones. Mrs. Hopkins was always an integral part of the extended family of her daughter and son-in-law, taking an active part in all family activities and gatherings. She will be remembered for her many acts of kindness and for the special love she had for her grandchildren. Mrs. Hopkins is survived by her only child, Dorothy Hopkins Parker; son-in-law, Samuel Parker; grandson, Greg Parker and wife Ashley; granddaughter, Laurie Parker and son Jackson; sisters, Annie Dukes, Louise Bordelon, Clarice Dew; and brother, Stafford Miller. She will be remembered as a special friend to Gladys Parker and Bert Hopkins. Mrs. Hopkins is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence; brother, Prentice Miller; and sister, Love Barron. Funeral services were held at Antioch Baptist Church in Florien at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. Burial followed at Antioch Cemetery. Long time family friend Rev. Wilton Anthony was minister in attendance. Pallbearers were: Charlie Bordelon, Kenny Wayne Hopkins, Glen Parker, Charles Ewen Barron, Kliford Walker and William "Bill" Barron. Warren Meadows Many, La.
