She was at the Schumpert only a few days following an illness of many months. Selma was a native of Zwolle and received her early education at Zwolle High School where she was graduated as valedictorian of her class. Her excellent records and her work in speech and English activities brought her outstanding recognition and many awards. After graduating from high school, Selma went to Louisiana State University where she obtained her degree with majors in Speech and Business Education. She then went to work in the Attendance Section of the State Department of Education in Baton Rouge. After four years she transferred to the office of the Louisiana Teachers Association where she served two years as secretary and writer of a column for the Louisiana Teachers Journal. In 1946 Selma married William Spencer Hopkins of West River, Maryland. They lived in Baton Rouge for several years, then moved to Zwolle where they have lived for the past sixteen years. Selma worked for the Welfare Department in Many after she returned to Zwolle. For the past few years she was an employee at L. Lefkovits General Merchandise Store in Zwolle. As an active participant in civic and community affairs, Selma made many significant contributions. She was a member of the Eastern Star, the choir of the First Baptist Church, Fidelis Sunday School Class, and a worker in the Band Boosters Club. Selma was truly a dedicated person to her family, to her friends, and to her work. She served so well in so many capacities that she will be greatly missed by the community that knew her graciousness and her goodness of heart. No greater tribute cane be paid to her than these words from so many friends. "We Don't know how we are going to do without Selma." Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Zwolle on Jan. 28, 1966 under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home of Many. The Reverend Miller Armstrong, pastor of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church of Mansfield, where Selma was a Member, assisted by Dr. R. P. Butler, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Zwolle, officiated in the services. Interment was in the Zwolle Cemetery. Surviving Mrs. Selma Lefkovits Hopkins are her husband, William S. Hopkins; four children; Spencer, Jonathan, Emily Claire and Millicent; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lefkovits, all of Zwolle; and her sister, Mrs. Tom Fore Phillips of Baton Rouge.
