Mrs. Huffman, a native of Pleasant Hill, was critically ill when the story of "How Christmas Came to Pleasant Hill", a touching autobiographical story of a little girl's Christmas, was published in last week's issue. Reports from Mrs. Huffman's bedside were received to the effect that she considered this a last gift to the people of her dearly beloved native parish. Mrs. Huffman was the daughter of Dr. James E. Mumford and Jane Kennedy Mumford. Mrs. Huffman's mother was the first woman to serve on a School Board in Sabine Parish, many years ago. Dr. Mumford was co-author with Mrs. Aida Gilvin, a sister of Mrs. Huffman, of "The Witch of Bayou Pierre", being one of the best read books in the Sabine Parish Library. Mrs. Huffman was popular in business circles in Shreveport, where she resided almost 50 years, and was a member of First Methodist Church, Shreveport Writers Club, and Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of the Confederacy. She is survived by her husband, John G. Huffman; cousins, Mrs. C. H. Bigsby, Mrs. J. T. Briggs Sr., Dr. J. B. Brown, and Will Dickinson, all of Shreveport; and a niece, Virginia Gaddis Godfrey, Mayor of Many.
