Hayes, 72, of Florien, died in Houston, Tex. Tuesday, May 18, after an extended illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 20, at 9:30 a.m., in the Fisher Baptist Church, with the Rev. Earl Marr, and the Rev. Jerry Mitchell officiating. Interment was in the Florien Cemetery. Surviving relatives are his wife, Mrs. Thelma Hayes of Florien; five sons, Carroll D. Hayes and Charles R. Hayes, both of Baton Rouge; Edwin M. Hayes, Jr., Richard Hayes, Dave B. Hayes, all of Houston; one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Pringle of Alexandria; five brothers, Lee, Jeff, Rufus, and Sam Hayes, all of Many, and Theodore Hayes of Beaumont; six sisters, Ella Oxley of Robeline, Katie Oxley, Gracie Blackman, and Edna McCormic, all of Many, Delia Blackman of Vidor, Tex., and Rozena Bell of Conway, Ark.; and 16 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ralph Russell, Allen Lewing, Marion Tannehill, Glen Salter, Clarence Woods, and Louis House.
