Hayes, 55, of Shreveport, were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 2, at Rose Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating were the Rev. Price Harris, music director of Calvary Baptist Church, and the Rev. Jim Morgan, youth director of Life Tabernacle. Graveside services were at 3 p.m., Saturday, at Marthaville Cemetery in Marthaville. He died at 2:15 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 1983, at V. A. Medical Center in Shreveport, following a brief illness. Mr. Hayes, a native of Coushatta, and a resident of Shreveport for the past 30 years, was owner of M. L. Hayes Dirt Works. He was a member of the C. B. Club, and the Home Builders Association. Mr. Hayes was Baptist affiliated. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mildred Hayes of Shreveport; four sons, Mr. Daswell Hayes, Douglas Hayes, Delane Hayes, and Dean Hayes, all of Shreveport; two daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Debbie) Nichols of Stonewall, La., and Denise Hayes of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Gertie Mae Singletary of Marthaville, La.; two brothers, Mr. Preston Hayes of Marthaville, La., and Mr. Garland Hayes of Shreveport; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Dale Cardin, Vivian Cutright, Huey Dalton, Buford Rope, Pete Melton, A. L. Swain. Honorary pallbearers: Employees of Hayes Dirt Works.
