Head, 87, were held Saturday, April 7, at 10 a.m., at the Leitz-Eagan Chapel in Metairie. Interment followed at the Roselawn Cemetery in Baton Rouge, under the direction of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home. Mr. Head passed away Thursday, April 5, at 2:25 p.m., at his residence. He was born in Bienville, and resided most of his life in Sabine Parish. He graduated from Louisiana College, and received his Masters in Education from Louisiana State University. His many achievements included those of being a former Superintendent of Schools for Sabine Parish, high school teacher, principal, and city alderman. He was also the founder and president of the Louisiana School Supervisor Association, and remained a member of numerous educational committees and associations. In 1974, he retired to Harahan, where he became a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church. He was the husband of Bessie Hawkins Head for 65 years, father of Dr. Lionel Head; father-in-law of Lynda Head; brother of Corine Henricksen, and J. L. Head; grandfather of Stuart and Jeremy Head. In lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to the Jerome R. Ryan Camp for children of Diabetes, c/o American Diabetes Assoc., 9420 Lindale Ave., Suite B., Baton Rouge, La., 70815 preferred.
