Harry Ray Hataway Sr., 78, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Many Health Care North. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Many. The Rev. Mark Bray will officiate. Interment will follow in the Ft. Jesup Cemetery, under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. The Rev. Hataway was born May 27, 1924, in Parsons, Kansas, to Clayton Walter and Helena Adella (Mackey) Hataway. He served 26 years in the military. He received his B.A. and M.A. from Phillips University in Enid, Okla. He retired as a chaplain in the United States Army in 1969, as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served with the 70th Infantry in the European Theater in World War II, with the 45th in Korea, and the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. After retirement from the military, he continued to serve as a minister at the First Christian Churches in both Crowley and Hammond. He retired from the ministry in 1987. Survivors include his wife, Cleo Hataway of Many; two sons, Clayton M. Hataway of Erin, Tenn., and Larry Hataway of Many; one daughter, Karren K. Perry of New Orleans; one grandson, Scott Hataway of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Amanda Hataway of Seattle, Wash., Kristi McDonald of Lafayette, and Kellie Hataway of Many; three great grandchildren, Jordan Hataway, Haley Hataway, and Jacob Hataway of Washington, D.C.; and a host of friends. The Rev. Hataway was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Walter Hataway; mother, Helena Adella (Mackey) Hataway; and son, Harry R. Hataway Jr. Warren Meadows, Many, La.
