J. Hodges Sr., died at 1 p.m., Sunday, in a Shreveport hospital, following an illness of several months. Funeral services were held Monday, for the prominent Shreveport woman who, with her husband, was responsible for the development of Hodges Gardens near Many. Mrs. Hodges was a native of Texarkana, and was the daughter of the late James T. and Frances Collins Trigg, prominent settlers of that city. She was educated in the public schools of Texarkana, and at North Texas State College at Denton. She married A. J. Hodges in 1914, and they made their home in Cotton Valley from that year until 1924, when they moved to Shreveport. Mrs. Hodges lived in Shreveport from 1924 until a year and a half ago, when she and Mr. Hodges moved to their home in Hodges Gardens near Many. The Gardens, in which Mrs. Hodges took an active part for seven years, are to be formerly dedicated May 1-3. While Mrs. Hodges will be remembered for her part in the creation of the Gardens, she was also active in a number of civic and religious groups. She was past president of the Pelican Chapter of the daughters of the American Revolution, and she was a member of the Colonial Dames. She was an active member of the First Methodist Church for many years. She was also a member of the Shreveport Country Club. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hodges is survived by one son, A. J. Hodges Jr.; three daughters, Mrs. Charles H. Jeter, Mrs. James Smitherman Jr., and Mrs. John J. Dailey, all of Shreveport; one brother, James T. Trigg of Lubbock, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. Edward D. Gillen of Shreveport; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 5 p.m., Monday, at Osborn Funeral Home, with Dr. D. L. Dykes, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Forest Park Cemetery, under the direction of Osborn Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Floyd R. Hodges, Dr. John A. Hendrick, W. Allbritton Sr., C. B. Byrd, John W. Melton, J. B. Kizer, J. Emmett Sedberry, William A. Peacock, Grover C. Koffman, and W. Foster Hughes.
